Weekday Impact

Before most people start their day, our Weekday staff welcomes bleary-eyed children and parents for another day of education. They teach the love of Christ and lay a foundation that some children share with others for years to come. We hear frequently from families how much they love their experience at First Baptist. One child named Skylyn had a remarkable experience at her elementary school. Several members of our personnel committee shared this story with me, and I wanted to pass it along to you.

While a Weekday student, Skylyn learned to pray the blessing, prepared for first grade, and learned how much Jesus loves her. She has excelled in her new elementary school and told her parents how surprised she was that they did not talk much about Jesus. Skylyn asked her teacher if she could write a letter to her class, and she read it to them.

“Hey I’m Skylyn and if you don’t know God then you’re in luck because I can tell you about him. He is a great person. He made you. He loves you. He doesn’t care if you are not good at gymnastics or if you can’t write because if you don’t like it you can just pray for you, and he will make your dreams come true. Bye, Skylyn.”

What a powerful witness for us at Lent. Skylyn “loves the Lord her God with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength; and she loves her neighbors as herself.” Her parents, grandparents, and Weekday taught her how.
