Thank You, Marty and Janice

Twenty years ago, Marty Smith came out of “retirement” to serve as our Minister to Internationals. As you know, Marty and Janice are unstoppable forces of God’s love and grace. Their work to share the gospel with our community is unsurpassed. They brought all the energy and wisdom from a successful ministerial career pastoring churches and helped take our internationals ministry to great levels. So many people have volunteered, brought desserts, taught English, smiled, waved, and assisted with friends from across the world. With over 24 different countries represented in our program, many languages spoken, and non-Christians attending, we can truly say that Marty and Janice help us fulfill the great commission at our doorstep.

Marty shared with me a couple of months ago his desire to retire…again. He and Janice have graciously agreed to stay with our internationals ministry through September, when hopefully his successor will be announced. Obviously, no one person will be able to fill the Smiths’ shoes; but we can follow in the footsteps of their legacy. Marty and Janice will remain in our church and continue to be as active as they can. Like so many of you, their grandchildren are calling, and we’re so excited for them to be able to experience a chance to share even more memories with family.

I’ve asked John Rice to lead our search for a new Minister to internationals. Marty and Janice will be leading a team to Lake Yale in September to be trained to minister to internationals. Now more than ever is a great time to get involved in this ministry. They’ve recently developed new relationships in the Sabal Palm Community, and I know that God continues to open doors to new groups of immigrants in our area. Pray for the one who comes behind Marty. Pray for God’s direction as we continue this ministry and celebrate this Sunday with Marty. While Kelly and I are cheering on Parker at a swim meet, Marty will be preaching a powerful message you won’t want to miss.

Thank you, Marty and Janice Smith. We love you.
