Think, Act, Be, Day 19-Hebrews 4:12-16

We have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens.

The television series Star Trek opened with the famous line that captured the attention of a generation: “To boldly go where no man has gone before.” The imaginative journey of the Star Trek enterprise is reality for people on earth. Jesus actually has gone places where no one else can go and returned to speak to us. He is our priest who has appeared before God on our behalf. Now through his word, he tells us what God wants from us. His word cuts through our hearts so that his direction, compassion, and truth can fall in. Like a surgeon who must heal by cutting into our flesh, our high priest’s words initially wound our lives so that forgiveness and healing can begin. He knits together the broken places of our lives. We can then boldly approach him in our time of need. That’s an incredible, exhilarating journey that lasts more than a season. It’s for all eternity.

Hebrews 4:12-16
12 Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And before him no creature is hidden, but all are naked and laid bare to the eyes of the one to whom we must render an account.

14 Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
