Think, Act, Be Day 36 – II Corinthians 8:7

Excel in the grace of giving.

Welcome to week 6 of Think, Act, Be. We’ve covered so much territory in this “Jesus Revolution.” This week, we turn to the disciplines that make our church stronger. One of the ways we strengthen the body is by growing in our generosity.

Gilchrist Elementary hosted its annual “Boosterthon” fundraiser last week. Drake ran 45 laps on “the long track” and raised some money for his school. The event was fun, and the kids had a chance to share in the joy of helping their school together.

Our generosity as believers is much more than an annual fundraiser. It’s a lifestyle. As believers, we have the opportunity to give not just because we want to, and not just because we enjoy giving with others, and not just because someone does something for us. We give because we’re given the opportunity to give. Giving itself is a grace. God blesses us with the chance to return to him what he already owns. We wouldn’t be his people, and he would not be our God if he had not asked us to give. He’s a giving God, and we’re generous people. By sharing our resources, we excel in another way to live like Jesus. Praise God from whom all blessings flow and to whom we return these blessings!

But since you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you—see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
