Tenebrae — A Service of Shadows

The Music Ministry of First Baptist will once again offer the Tenebrae Service of Shadows on Good Friday, April 14, at 6:30PM. This unique and moving worship experience will enable worshippers to reflect on the significance of Jesus’ death through scripture readings, observance of the Lord’s Supper, and music. As this service progresses, seven candles are extinguished one by one, until the sanctuary is shrouded in darkness. A chime is struck for each year of Christ’s life and worshippers depart in silence to anticipate the coming of Easter morning.
This year’s music will feature choir and full orchestra, and will include several solo and choral selections from Handel’s Messiah. We hope you will take this opportunity to invite family, friends, and neighbors to experience the transforming power of Christ’s death and resurrection through this and other Holy Week events. The service will last approximately one hour and childcare will be provided.
