PASTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE UPDATE #14

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow! As we have announced to the congregation this past Sunday, after about 26 months of seeking the Lord to lead us to our next Senior Pastor, the Lord has indeed led us to an individual who your Pastor Search Committee unanimously voted to invite to Tallahassee on May 27, 2018, to preach in view of a call. The choice of this date was a compromise among several competing and ongoing events in the life of FBCTLH and we hope by announcing the date three weeks ahead of time many of us will be able to attend.

Meanwhile, we continue to work out key details associated with the planned visit. First, we are prayerfully asking all to be wise in how any information is shared concerning the candidate so we are able to protect the individual and his congregation from word getting out to his congregation prematurely. By doing so, we will allow the candidate the opportunity to be the first to inform his congregation about his call to serve the Lord here in Tallahassee.

Secondly, we are planning a thanksgiving, Lord’s Supper, and prayer service on Saturday, May 26, 2018, prior to the service on Sunday, May 27. We will utilize the occasion to give thanks to the Lord for bringing us this far and ask the Lord to prepare FBCTLH for what He has in store for us. The Saturday, May 26, 2018 service will be at 6:00PM and the candidate will not be at the service.

Thirdly, we will use the May 26 occasion to answer questions the congregation may have regarding the Pastor Search Committee (PSC) activities since our January 28, 2018 update. In this regard, we are requesting all members of FBCTLH who have any questions for the PSC to send them to our pastorsearch@fbctlh.org email address and we’ll attempt to answer many of them on May 26, 2018. In addition, blue boxes will be made available in the Connect Center for written questions.

We are requesting that those who have questions for the candidate also submit the questions to the same email address. All questions submitted by noon on May 20, 2018, will provide us with ample time to process them. Submitting the questions ahead of time will be very helpful in managing our time together during the Saturday service. The PSC will share the answers the candidate has provided to several pertinent questions during our evaluation process of candidates with the congregation. A general biographical sketch of the candidate without any identifying information will be provided after the Saturday service.

Fourth, on Sunday, May 27, 2018, there will be a Combined Worship Service beginning at 10:00AM with no SMBS. Prior to the sermon, the candidate will be introduced to the congregation. Following the sermon, the church will be called into a business meeting beginning with the candidate answering submitted questions. The candidate will depart the Sanctuary after answering the questions and the church will vote on the candidate.

Fifth, each of the members of the PSC will be providing a written devotional message beginning about nine days before the service on May 27, 2018. Further details will be provided later.

Be blessed,
Seth Y Ablordeppey and the Pastor Search Committee.
