Scripture Reference: Hebrews 1:1-4
Today, we began “Think, Act, Be,” a series to help us live like Jesus in our world today. We’re going back to the basics—like children learning to ride a bicycle again.
We looked at four beliefs of Jesus’ followers.
Our memory verse for the week is
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12
I preached from Hebrews 1:1-2:4 and shared that God is still talking to us as Trinity.
Frederick Buechner said, “God never seems to weary of trying to get himself across.” Like a megaphone or a bullhorn shouting at drifting passengers on a cruise ship, God still calls us to nonbelievers and believers to listen to Him.
We know God is still speaking today because we can hear his voice through the Bible (1:5-13). The Bible is God’s inspired transcript. It tells us how he loves the world and continues working in our world today. The Bible equips us for good work (2 Timothy 3:16) so we can grow to become like Jesus.
God still wants to be personally involved with you, but must pay attention (Hebrews 2:1). Even longtime believers can become like ships drifting off course, with no power. We can neglect God’s wonderful salvation when we go our way or simply accept the gridlock of life as normal becoming stuck in the routines and ruts. Every generation comes back to Jesus to start again. By his grace, he can change our lives. As the hymn writer John Newton said, grace has “brought us safely thus far, and grace will lead us home.” Through Jesus, he has given us grace to show us the way home (Ephesians 2:8-10).
Pray this prayer today if you have never done so, and accept God’s grace in your life.
Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I need you to take control of my life. I surrender my life to you and give my life completely to you. Please save me, and change my life forever. You are Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
