Scripture Reference: John 12:19-26
Today was Heritage Sunday and a Day of Remembrance. We celebrated 166 years of ministry as First Baptist Church of Tallahassee and recognized those who joined our church fifty years ago. Many of these Golden Members shared why they are thankful for First Baptist. You can watch the full video here. We remembered those who have died over the last twelve months and gave thanks that they are part of the “cloud of witnesses” today.
We learned from John 12:19-26 what happens when the world goes after Jesus. People begin to see the measurable tangible difference that Jesus makes in the lives of disciples like Philip and Andrew. When we think, act, and live like Jesus, people come to us and ask to see and talk about Jesus.
Then our plans change. The life of a faithful disciple prepares us for the unexpected. Jesus announced to his disciples that his death and resurrection would be the path to life. He prepared them for unplanned suffering that leads to eternal life.
What do we do when our plans change? We walk in the light while we have the light. Keep walking, and keep shining the light that Jesus gives you. Jesus calls again and again. It’s never too late to be Philip or Andrew. You too can go after Jesus.
