Scripture Reference: I Samuel 3:1-10
On the second Sunday of Lent, we focused on God’s call and those who have responded. Six people were baptized in both services today. We praise the Lord for these decisions.
During the sermon, I preached on Samuel’s call in 1 Samuel 3:1-10. Although Samuel could hear God’s voice, he did not know who was speaking. The priest Eli could interpret God’s voice, but he could not see visions any more. God used both of them to carry out his will.
All of us are called by God, but we need an Eli in our lives to help us interpret that call. A call is where our deepest passions meet the world’s greatest needs and God’s challenge for us. Even though Eli and his family were scoundrels, God still used the priest to interpret his message. God takes our imperfections and can use them for his glory.
Is God calling you like Samuel?
Are you and Eli for someone else?
All of us are invited to say the same thing that both Eli and Samuel said, “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.”
