Thanks + Giving Dinner

Think of this as a warm-up for your Thanksgiving dinner. We’ll provide the turkey, dressing, and sides. You bring a dessert, an empty shoebox, and gift items for your box. There is no cost for the dinner, but you’re encouraged to bring a $9 donation to help cover the cost of shipping your shoebox. After dinner, we’ll pack shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, whose mission is “to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.”
Please RSVP below (or e-mail Allison) so we can have enough turkey and sides for all.
To get started, decide whether you want to pack a box for a girl or a boy, and then choose an age category: 2–4, 5–9, or 10–14. Consult the list below for ideas of gift items to bring (or print this list and take it shopping with you).
TOYS: soccer ball, small cars, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, small Etch A Sketch®, toys that light up or make noise (with extra batteries), Slinky®, etc.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES: pens, pencils and sharpener, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc.
HYGIENE ITEMS: comb, hairbrush, toothbrush, washcloth, adhesive bandages, etc.
OTHER: t-shirts, socks, ball caps; sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches, flashlights (with extra batteries), whistles
A PERSONAL NOTE: In a separate envelope, you may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family. (If you include your name and address, the child may write back.)
DO NOT INCLUDE: candy; toothpaste; gum; used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives, or military figures; chocolate or food; seeds; fruit rolls or other fruit snacks; drink mixes (powdered or liquid); liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.
