PLANNING FOR THE SEASON AHEAD

PLANNING FOR THE SEASON AHEAD

It might seem hard to believe but 2019 is almost over. As the holiday season is fast approaching, events and activities begin to fill up family schedules. With Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s knocking on the door, we’d like to share some upcoming events for you to plan and prepare for this upcoming holiday season. We hope that these events would not add to the craziness of life, but instead, help you focus your thoughts and attention on the true meaning for life, Jesus Christ and his kingdom.

With that in mind, here are some of the upcoming events for you to participate in and invite your friends and family to attend with you.

Operation Christmas Child — November 18–25. Operation Christmas Child is a missions project to provide shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching children all over the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ. This year our church is serving as a drop-off center for downtown Tallahassee. For packing instructions visit fbctlh.org/occ-shoe-box-collection.

Hanging of the Green — Sunday, December 1. Celebrate the beginning of the Advent season with a combined worship service with activities that include decorating the Christmas tree, bringing in poinsettias, carol singing, and, most of all, honoring the Word of God become flesh for us, all at 10:30AM (SMBS at 9:15AM).

Ring in the Season — Saturday, December 7. The First Baptist Church Music Ministry presents the 22nd annual Ring in the Season on Saturday, December 7, at 4:00PM, featuring several handbell choirs in an hour-long program of joyous Christmas music to help kick-off the Winter Festival downtown.

Winter Festival Hospitality — Saturday, December 7. As the Tallahassee community comes downtown to celebrate during the Winter Festival, FBCTLH will open its doors to minister and witness to those in our community. Your smiling face is wanted to welcome and direct guests to restrooms or resting areas. Sign up to serve for a 1-hour shift at signup.com/go/KQmPzvE, with the rest of your night free to celebrate the season with our community.

Christmas Cards for Inmates — Sunday, December 8. Every Christmas, through your generosity, we provide 3,000 Christmas cards (Christian, not secular) with meaningful Christian messages to the 1,000 inmates in the Leon County jail. Collection boxes are in the College Avenue foyer, library, and in the Connect Center.

A Family Christmas — Saturday, December 14. Families are invited to attend and participate in fun Christmas-themed activities such as ornament making, cookie decorating, breakfast, gift-making, and the telling of the Christmas story at 10:00AM. A Family Christmas is a free event geared to families with children from baby ages through 5th grade. Register online at fbctlh.org/a-family-christmas.

He Is Worthy — A Christmas Musical — Sunday, December 15. The music ministry of First Baptist Church of Tallahassee is proud to present He Is Worthy. Mark your calendars for Sunday, December 15, at 6:00PM, as the music ministry leads us in an hour of stirring music and worship. Interpreted for the Deaf.

Christmas Eve Service — Tuesday, December 24. On Christmas Eve, two services are available for you to come and worship with your family and friends. The Family Christmas Eve service, geared towards families with young children, begins at 4:00PM. At 6:00PM, the Candlelight Christmas Service is framed by candlelight and carols celebrating the birth of the Savior.

These are a few of the activities offered this holiday season. For more information about events and activities hosted at FBCTLH, please visit fbctlh.org/calendar regularly. We look forward to worshiping with you this Christmas season!
