We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year! Each Sunday this January, Dr. Shiell will be preaching through the book of Ezekiel as we discover together God’s presence where he’s planted us here in Tallahassee. Together we will hear God’s call, accept where God has planted us, surrender the shame of the past, receive new hearts from God, and allow God to breathe new life in us. It’s a great way to start the year! In SMBS classes, teachers will be studying the book of Ezekiel as well. Study guides written by Dr. Shiell are available at no charge, through your SMBS class or at the front desk. See you soon!
January 4 – Blow the Whistle (Ezekiel 3:16-27)
God calls us to be sentinels, watchers on the wall for him. To do so, we must remain vigilant about ourselves while surrendering the results of our work to God. Where has God called you and placed you right now? Be silent and pay attention. It’s a new year to see a vision of God’s work.
January 11 – The Sovereign Gardener (Ezekiel 18:25-32)
God is a Sovereign Lord. What do we mean by that? In Ezekiel, he’s a gardener of life. He plants, nurtures, and waters us, but we must accept where he’s planted us produce fruit. To do so, we need to surrender the shame of our past. It’s time to start over in the place God has put you.
January 18 – Guard Their Lives (Ezekiel 34:14-20; 36:26-28)
The Lord shepherds us like a lifeguard. One thing he does is transplant our hearts. He takes out our stubborness and gives us a new heart and a new obedience to him. We need to develop an internal compass to know the shepherd’s voice and follow him.
January 25 – Hand in Hand with the Lord (Ezekiel 37:15-28)
The people learn to trust the Lord by retelling Ezekiel and agreeing to his terms of the covenant. What is God wanting you to agree to that he’s already done for you? He’s just waiting for you to surrender your old life and accept the new life he’s breathing into you?
On Wednesday evenings during Adult Bible Study (6:00PM in the sanctuary), Dr. Shiell will be teaching through Ezekiel as well.
