SABAL PALM PARTNERSHIP
Seeing God at work is AWESOME. Being a part of God at work is EXCITING! When FBCTLH and Sabal Palm Elementary School began our partnership in August of 2013 it was evident to those on the committee that God was at work in some unique and thrilling ways. As the partnership continued, God worked through smiles, moving furniture, helping staff, meals, notes, fence demolition, sod laid, Prayergrams, costuming, math problems, vocabulary words, papers graded, books gathered, repaired and donated, hugs, prayer…the list goes on. Men and women, joining God at work to be His hands and feet and showing His love to others, have seen amazing transformations. Watching the ministry unfold from the beginning, we have seen God work and open doors as only He can. We have watched and even helped Sabal Palm go from a “low D School” to a “high C school”. To be a part of His plan at this time in the lives of the Administration, Faculty, Staff, and Children at Sabal Palm is both humbling and exhilarating.
The door is wide open for you to either continue volunteering or to join in the fun and excitement for the very first time. There are several ways you can be a part of the partnership between Sabal Palm Elementary School and FBCTLH.
Monday – Friday, August 1 – 5 from 6:30AM – 5:30PM
a. They will be:
i. Dusting and Cleaning Furniture
ii. Moving Furniture
iii. Other things as needed to prepare the rooms
b. Teachers may also need extra help getting their rooms ready.
You are invited to volunteer to help in these areas by choosing the days and hours which will work with your personal schedule from the times listed above. Simply go to the school office, check in and there will be projects for you to work on.
Thursday, August 11 (time to be determined)
a. 2–4 Bus Drivers to Drive Sabal Palm Staff over the bus routes for the children of their school
b. 4–6 People to serve lunch as teachers are meeting, training, and preparing for the new school year.
Friday, August 12 from 1:30PM–3:30PM
Four mentors to be at a Sign-up table for the Mentoring Program. This will help to generate excitement and possibly get paper work for the students completed more quickly.
We would like to have at least 30 Mentors, 40 Classroom Volunteers, and Volunteers for special events for the 2016–2017 School Year. Please follow the steps below to serve for this school year:
1. Call Joy Stein at joy@fbctlh.org or 222-5470 x131 so we can have an accurate list of all involved.
2. Both VOLUNTEERS and MENTORS need to go to www.leonschools.net and look down the right side of the screen. Find and follow the link for the “Volunteer Application Form”. It will take about 5 minutes to fill it out. (There are two places where they ask who you are affiliated with and that would be ‘First Baptist Church’). Before you submit the form, please print out a copy and bring it by the church office to further aide us in keeping accurate files. If you do not have computer access, stop by the church and we will help you get a form filled out.
3. RETURNING MENTORS will be asked to fill out a hard copy of a form the first time you go to the school. You may begin going as early as the week of August 24 but know that assignments might not be made right away. You can serve as volunteers in classrooms until all of the paper work for the mentees is complete.
NEW MENTORS will need to fill out the Volunteer form described above but will also need to register on the school web site for a mandatory MENTOR training required by Leon County Schools. Go to www.leonschool.net. In the middle of the page you will see Community and under that you will see Volunteer Program follow the prompt to Sign Up Genius to New Mentor Training and select a date to attend.
Special skills, hobbies, and interests are always exciting to children. You can share with different ages about the things you are passionate about in life. If you have a special interest area, call (222-5470 x 131) and let Joy know so we can pass it on to Sabal Palm Administration.
