JESUS’ KINGDOM PROMISES

It’s hard sometimes to see what God is doing, whether we’re looking in our own lives, the lives of those around us, or just the world in general. Jesus gives us all these amazing promises about what he is doing in this world, not to mention the world to come. Yet it’s all too easy to get caught up in the everyday realities of life and fail to see how any of these promises are really coming true.

The crowds following Jesus around during his ministry wondered the same things we do. They looked at their lives, they looked at the world, and then they looked at God’s promises in Scripture, and they couldn’t figure out why things didn’t seem to match up. So at one point in his ministry, Jesus sits down in a boat to preach a series of parables, with two goals in mind. First, he wants us to know his promises are true, that we can and should stake our lives on them. Second, he wants us to know that how we respond to his promises, to him, makes all the difference in the world when it comes to our lives now, and in the world to come.

For the next several weeks, we are going to spend some time on Sunday mornings going through this particular message of Jesus (found in Matthew 13) and reflecting on what it means for us. Not only do we need to be reassured that Jesus is at work, right now, in our lives, community, and circumstances, but we need to make sure that we’re staking our lives on his work, that this is what we are all about too. I look forward to worshipping with you over the next several weeks as we continue to walk in grace together.

God bless,
