God is With Us

We’re making a list and checking it twice at First Baptist. We have so many ways to celebrate that “God is with us” through our giving, sharing, and going. I hope you’re finding ways to get involved.

Pray for International Missions. We are in the week of prayer for international missions. This summer we heard from two of our own IMB missionaries. This Sunday, we hear from two CBF missionaries to Athens, Greece. By giving to the Lottie Moon and Global Missions offerings we support the SBC and CBF carry out the Great Commission. Offering envelopes are in the pew racks.

Donate cards for prisoners. Each year, Rose Zongker assembles a team of caring folks to help inmates in our local jails send Christmas cards to loved ones. Our goal is 3,000 religious cards with a meaningful Christian witness and the deadline is this Sunday. Please drop unsealed, unsigned, appropriate Christmas cards and envelopes, in the receptacles in the Welcome Center. Rose and her team will distribute them to the sheriff’s office so that the chaplains can distribute them.

Build a house on California Street. This Saturday morning, and Saturday, December 14, we kickoff the churchwide construction efforts for the Montgomery House. If you can swing a hammer, haul trash, or help out, please contact the church office.

Welcome to Winter Festival. We open our doors Saturday from 4:00-10:00 for the Winter Festival. Come at 4:00PM to hear the Handbells ring in the season, and hang around to host our downtown guests.

Drop by our home Sunday. Kelly, Parker, Drake, and I extend a cordial invitation for you to come to our home this Sunday from 4:00-7:00PM. This is a “Shiell family tradition” for over 14 years. Dress is casual. Children and extended family are welcome.

Bring a guest, give a gift. Beginning Sunday, December 15 in the Welcome Center, bring your guests by for hot chocolate, coffee, and conversation. Ask them to fill out a connect form, and we’ll give them a commemorative ornament to celebrate the season.

With all this and more on our plate, there must be only one reason we’re so busy. A Baby is on the way, and it’s time to get ready. Be sure to share the story with someone in your house this week.
